The Design and Technology course at Key Stage 3, provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the various routes available at Key Stage 4. It also provides an awesome environment for students to learn through the practical application, allowing for creative solutions to real, complex problems. Fundamentally, Year 7 and 8 projects allow students to access and refine the skills needed to study at Key Stage 4.

Students study electronics, food technology and resistant materials to complete projects such as:

  • Steady hand game
  • Night cube light
  • Frisbee
  • Whirligig
  • Flip lid box
  • Healthy food dishes

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, we offer Electronic Products at GCSE level – through the AQA ‘Design and Technology’ specification and NCFE Level 1/2 Certificate in Creative Studies: Craft – through V-Cert specification. Eduqas specification.

Electronic Products is assessed in the following way:

Controlled Assessment 60%
External Examination 40%

Creative Studies: Craft is assessed in the following way:

Unit 1: Exploring craft and enterprise skills. Mandatory internally assessed portfolio of evidence
Unit 2: Research and develop design ideas for craft items. Mandatory internally assessed portfolio of evidence
Unit 3: Respond to a craft brief. Mandatory externally assessed assignment
Unit 4: Produce final craft work. Mandatory internally assessed portfolio of evidence.
