We are very proud of the Library at Outwood Academy Newbold. It provides an excellent resource for students and staff with over 12000 books as well as magazines, newspapers and computers.
You can now access the school Library catalogue from home to see what resources we have available via this link -
Every student in school is a member of the Library and we encourage everyone to regularly borrow books, recognising the strong links between reading and attainment.
We run reading groups, work with local primary schools, shadow book awards and organise reading themed events.
The library is open every day, with qualified staff on hand to offer guidance. Students are welcome to use the Library at breaks, lunchtimes and before school from 8am.
We also offer a full programme of Enrichment after school.
Look out for our new KS3 Reading Club starting on Wednesdays after Easter – details to come!
We are developing a new ‘Reading Partnership’ designed to help parents/carers support our students in Year 7/8 with their reading and comprehension skills. Students identified as having a low ‘reading age’ are invited to participate in a 10 week scheme. This involves them reading 1:1 at home and is monitored by Librarians in school.
If you feel your child could benefit from this support then please get in touch.
All students in Year 7 and 8 (and some in Year 9) are now participating in the Accelerated Reader reading scheme.
More details about the scheme can be found using the link (below).
